Buy a burger feed a school child

By Claire Strickett, Byron

On Tuesday 6th October we launched a new partnership with an innovative young charity.  One Feeds Two is based on the simple premise of using hunger to fight hunger. You buy a meal for yourself, and at the same time, you provide a nutritious school meal for a child living in one of the poorest parts of the world – something that costs a mere 25p. This increases educational attendance and attainment, improves those children’s chances in life, and contributes to raising their entire community out of poverty.

We like to keep things simple at Byron and we know our customers appreciate that. It was the brilliant simplicity of One Feeds Two that appealed to us so much – so now, as their first nationwide restaurant partner, every time a customer buys our current special, we’ve pledged to provide a school meal for a child through One Feeds Two.

To underline that promise, we decided to kick things off on 6th October by offering any of our proper hamburgers for just 25p – the cost of a nutritious school meal. Every penny raised from the sale of those hamburgers went to providing school meals through One Feeds Two.

The show of support from our customers was overwhelming, with many waiting patiently in queues around the block. Our teams in the restaurants rose to the challenge and gave it their all to make the day a true success in the name of a great cause. In one day, our customers ate their way through an astonishing 40,000 hamburgers. We then made the decision to match our customers’ contribution on behalf of the business, making a grand total of over 80,000 school meals provided through One Feeds Two in a single day.

We’re excited about increasing that total throughout the coming months as our partnership continues. By helping to do our bit to raise awareness of the great work that One Feeds Two do, we hope that the list of businesses pledging their support to this brilliant charity will grow and grow.
