In Autumn 2007 Tim and Clare Bouget returned to the UK after working in boutique hotels around the world with the aim to open an ethical fine dining restaurant.

Located in the coastal village of Shaldon, ODE restaurant opened its doors in October that same year. The following year ODE restaurant became certified organic by the Soil Association and went on to win “Taste of the West” South West Restaurant of the Year” 2007 and again in 2008.
ODE quickly became recognised as one of the finest restaurants in the South West and was listed in Waitrose Good Food Guide scoring a 6, AA and Michelin guides.

In 2011 ODE signed up the Sustainable Restaurants Association (SRA) and was rated with the highest 3 stars and went on to win the inaugural SRA Restaurant of the Year award 2012.

Over time It became apparent there was a need to offer a “family friendly” style of food in the village, perhaps a café with affordable food and drink with sustainable values…When the old stables at Ness Cove were put on the market by the local council, we expressed an interest with a plan to convert and renovate the buildings. Then, as they say, the rest is history. Built entirely on the principles of sustainability, café ODE opened in summer 2012 by local rock band MUSE during the Olympic torch celebrations.

café-ODE went on to win the SRA Restaurant of the Year 2013 and again in 2014 before being asked to step down in 2015 with an unmatched hat trick of awards to the ODE name.

Although not eligible for the main award, ODE scooped the Food Made Good awards for “Sourcing” in 2015 and Reduce, Reuse Recycle in 2018.
In the past 10 years all of the ODE-true food partnerships such as Gara Rock, ODE&Co and mobile business ODE on the ROAD have received the highest rating of three stars.

Other awards we are truly proud of include the 2014 Sustainable Business “Catey”, the hospitality industry “Oscars”, and Sustainable Restaurant of the Year at the 2018 National Restaurant Awards.

ODE continues to be at the forefront of the sustainable food movement in the UK, setting the benchmark for others to follow. At the Food Made Good Awards 2019, ODE was shortlisted for both the Peoples Favourite Award and Business of the Year.
