Fish and chip lovers across the UK are coming together on Friday 3 June to celebrate the nation’s favourite dish.
National Fish and Chip Day 2016 is set to be even bigger than last year as it brings together everyone involved in creating this iconic British dish; from fish and chip shops, pub chains, restaurants, retailers, to the fishermen and farmers who provide the sustainable and natural ingredients needed to create this favourite dish.
Fish and Chip shops across the UK are backing the awareness day and will be decorating their shops, running special promotions and competitions and generally creating a huge buzz about fish and chips. Shops will also be supporting The Fishermen’s Mission charity by proudly displaying collection boxes in their shop.
In 2015 #nationalfishandchipday began trending during the afternoon and looks set to do the same this year.
National Fish & Chip Day is about giving fish and chips the recognition it deserves and helping to secure its position as the nation’s favourite dish. The event, which will take place on the first Friday in June every year, already has the backing of key players in the industry.
The national event is once again being championed by trade organisation, The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association who represent packers and distributors of oils and fats in the UK. NEODA President, Andrew Marriott, comments, “National Fish and Chip Day celebrates the stars who work hard to bring Brits their favourite traditional takeaway. We want to bring the whole industry together to celebrate and showcase the great British institution that is fish and chips.”
NEODA is committed to sustainable development of sourcing, production and consumption practices. As well as being affiliate members of the RSPO, we work closely with government bodies and other organisations, to ensure sustainable practices are being used within the industry.
Launched in 2015, National Fish and Chip Day was created when it was pointed out that there was a Frozen Food Day, A Marmalade Day, National Sandwich Day and many more so why not a National Fish & Chip Day!
To help build support in anticipation for the event, we are urging people to start tweeting with the hashtag #NationalFishandChipDay.
