Grab your chance to make food good with both hands

Cue drum roll… ok, so it’s a two month drum roll but we are that pumped about our upcoming Food Made Good calendar campaigns.

Over the course of 2017 we’ll be banging the drum (yes we’re going to be noisy) on ten different themes from kids’ menus to food waste, energy efficiency to ethical coffee.

And as a wake-up call – coffee is where it’ll all start in February as we kick off the campaigns with month long call to action for you our members, and the wider industry to demonstrate that you are ‘Supporting global farmers’. We’ll be calling on you to commit to ‘Source ethical coffee’. Month two, March, will see the focus shift to ‘Valuing natural resources’ when we’ll be urging the sector to commit to ‘Monitoring energy use and setting reduction targets’.

We’ll keep you fully posted with details of the further eight campaigns a little nearer the time. But what’s true for the first two stands for the rest of them too. We want to promote all foodservice businesses already doing brilliant things in these areas as well as provide extensive advice and support through resources, events and training for those who aren’t quite there with either of the commitments just yet. And the year will be liberally peppered with events where you’ll be able to meet up with like-minded fellow members with whom you can share challenges and smart solutions. They’ll also provide the chance for you to check in with experts in the field, with whom we’ve partnered, and members of the SRA team for up to the minute advice and support to help you achieve your goals in that topic.

So please do let us know if you’d like to be involved, and join us for one of our upcoming events!

To kick things off in February, we’ve got two Member-only roaster tours in London and Bristol. Each event will involve a tour and tasting as well as a panel session to explore how Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance and Direct Trade aim to support coffee growers worldwide.

Sign up here for a tour at Union’s London Roastery on Friday 17th February at 10am.

Sign up here for a tour at Extract Coffee’s Bristol Roastery on 23rd February at 10am.

Both events are free to attend and places are allocated on a first come first serve basis. It’s one place per business for now. Any extra registrations we’ll put on a waiting list.

In March, with the focus on valuing natural resources we’re partnering with WWF again to create candlelit dinners across the UK to celebrate Earth Hour on Saturday 25th March. This is Earth Hour’s 10th birthday and your chance to be involved in one of the biggest mass participation environmental events on the planet. All you have to do is turn down the lights and serve your customers a candlelit dinner to remember. To find out more, register your interest here and we’ll send you a planning pack later this month.

Make an early New Year’s resolution – start planning ahead for Food Made Good 2017 now.
